Sophie graduated with a BA (Hons) Degree in Heritage Management and spent her early career in customer service management roles within local authorities. A request to become a Foundation Governor at her old primary school created an opportunity to become involved in school governance going on to serve as the Chair of Governors and to subsequently take up further governance roles in a sixth form academy and Catholic primary school. Sophie is a qualified Academy Governance Professional with over ten years’ experience of providing clerking and professional support and guidance to Governors in multiple settings including primary, secondary and sixth form colleges and academy trust boards.
Sophie joins Emmaus having previously held the post of Senior Clerk for a Local Authority Governor Services team where she was responsible for the recruitment and development of professional clerks and for the quality assurance of a first-class service supporting clerking and governance. Sophie is a passionate advocate for governance and its impact on school improvement and believes that strong, effective governance contributes to every child being enabled to reach their full potential.
